1.      UNZIP U50a815a.zip to a bootable  USB MS-DOS floppy,as the Sony Vaio does not have a built in floppy..  
This is important as the CD-ROM must not be active/locked by any O.S. in order for the firmware to burn.

2.     once booted the floppy type     updcrx35.exe  u50a815a.bix   
        

3.      3. type "y"

    ex:firmware file"u50a815a.bix"
       type "updcrx35 u50a815a.bin"


 

IMPROVEMENTS MADE:


The main improvement the firmware makes, is improve write stability, mostly for problems with slightly imbalanced media.

Regarding the burn speed, the updated firmware will make any changes to that.

As you see, DVD-R/-RW will only be written at 1X, but DVD+R/+RW can be written at 2X.
